In the picturesque foothills of the Orlice mountains, situated on the Tichá Orlice river, lies Letohrad, a town with a distinguished history which until 1950 was named Kyšperk. The first written mention of the town originates from the year 1308. The town enjoyed its greatest period of development in the 17th century under Earl Hynek Jetřich Vitanovský, who had the baroque chateau and church built here, with unique stucco decoration. The dominant feature of the town square is the baroque Marian plague column. The square also boasts two pillared arcades.

Letohrad lies in a superb valley, surrounded by unspoilt natural beauty. Visitors are attracted by the baroque chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, the natural landscape park with its imperial fountain, pavilion and artificial cave with viewing point. The Municipal Museum presents the history of the town, which amongst its artefacts includes an original Napoleonic sleigh, and a new tourist attraction is the private Museum of Crafts. Since autumn 2002 the first section of the chateau exhibition has been open to the public. Every year Letohrad hosts the famous Kopeček fair, the International Music Festival, Fine Arts Festival and the Czech National Championships in the biathlon on roller skis.
